Two Fast Too Soon – “Mommy Pizza?” With Sprinkles on Top.

How did my little Melody turn two already?

Like a blur my once bald headed, round and squishy girl is now running around with a full crown of curly hair (which she refuses to remain stationary to be combed), and a whole lot of personality.

(*note the leg lock to keep her tame)

This year for Melody’s birthday my husband Jacob and I decided that with the hectic nature of the last couple of months, we did not have the time or energy to throw a birthday party.

For anyone who knows Melody she just loves being around people.  To be honest, I was a little disappointed to not be celebrating in a bigger way.

The week leading up to her actual birthday, with excitement Melody repeatedly asked in her sweet little voice, “Mommy pizza?”

Now mind you Melody has never had pizza before and due to her many food allergies traditional pizza has always been off the table. The worst of them are her allergies to dairy, eggs and nuts.

Melody may not be able to have traditional pizza or birthday cake, but I was open to attempting an allergen free version of the two.

This last minute decision on my end resulted in flour, sprinkles and vegan buttercream frosting  everywhere as I scrambled to make both the cake and pizza.

It was a hot mess up in my kitchen (story of my life). I so wish I took a picture.

Melody assisted with rolling out the dough and placed the toppings on her dairy free mini pizza. Everything turned out looking great. The funny thing is she didn’t even eat her #homemade #vegan #dairyfree #birthdaydinner (face palm).

She ended up opting for seaweed and rice (gim + bap = Korean baby diet) instead.

I am realizing that it all feels too fast too soon! I know it’s just a cake and it’s only a pizza, but the reality is that Melody is constantly changing and she can do so much already at two years old.

I know that time won’t slow down just for me and before I know it I will be sending Melody off into the world. Reflecting on this my heart desires to be more intentional in taking the time to slow down a little. I want to be able to appreciate the intricate process of growth required to produce a beautiful result.

I know that as the years pass I will continue to hear Melody’s sweet little voice asking me to help her experience many more things in life.

My hope is that when her sweet little voice isn’t so little anymore, that she will still want to share those precious moments with her “mommy.”
